Bayside Towers. Located at 4000 and 4100 E. Third Avenue, Foster City. This article concerns another historic development in our city. And while Bayside Towers may not have the long history of some of the other developments, it still represents a novel one and is associated with some interesting history of the area and our city. The area itself, a small northeastern segment of Foster City, close to the San Mateo Bridge, interestingly enough, was referred to as Guano Island,…
1982 advertisement for Lincoln Centre. Note the spelling! Often miss-spelled when discussed in town it was/is called Lincoln “Centre” which is a more formal way to spell the word. Lincoln Center is obviously a well known location in New York City. Lincoln Property Company is a large developer and has been doing buisness in Foster City for decades.

Foster City… Its Beginning “Those who were sure Foster City would fail have been disappointed. Foster City lives, grows and is strengthening into a community in which its residents have both faith and pride.”
From our archives we present this postcard that went out to Foster City residents to promote San Mateo’s Fashion Island Mall. What makes this photo unique are some of the smaller details seen in the aerial photo. Metro Tower was completed in 1986 so this photo had to be the early to mid 1980’s.

Some would say it is a form of escapism and perhaps it is in a way, but not an escape from reality, rather a flight from the unreal things.” Roger Tory Peterson Last Saturday, while sitting on the bench at Foster City’s Belmont Slough Wildlife Refuge, my thoughts moved…
Recognizing the 50th anniversary of the incorporation of Foster City, the City’s former Public Works Director, Richard Hopper, spoke on the history of the City’s creation. Richard focused on the building of the City and the unique features that make up its character. I’m Carmen Blair, the deputy director of the San Mateo County Historical Association, and I would like to welcome you to today’s Courthouse Docket. The Courthouse Docket is a monthly series of lectures and performances sponsored by…
In 2010-2011 Kavin Gardiner assisted the City of Foster City with the existing conditions analysis for the Land Use & Circulation Element of its General Plan. This involved lots of photos. Foster City is a master-planned “new town” founded in the 1960s on engineered landfill in the marshes of the San Francisco Bay. The city was named after T. Jack Foster, a real estate magnate who owned much of the land comprising the city and who was instrumental in its initial design. The neighborhoods…
When Foster City was first formed the city was setup to have distinct neighborhoods. 1-9 and later expanded. Today there are 1-9 and the other areas have names. Here are the current neighborhoods.
