RE: BOWDITCH MIDDLE SCHOOL PROJECT, FOSTER CITY, SAN MATEO COUNTY, CALIFORNIA

To Whom It May Concern:

Michael Baker International is conducting a cultural resources study in support of the Bowditch Middle School Project (project) in Foster City, California. The project site is located on the existing Bowditch Middle School campus at 1450 Tarpon Street and is bounded by Beach Park Blvd to the east, Tarpon Street to the north, Swordfish Street to the South, and the Marina Green Condo and Townhouse complex to the west (see Attachment 1). The proposed project would be completed in four phases and would entail demolition of approximately 47,00 square feet of existing classrooms and workspaces to accommodate a new single-story building for the school’s drama and science programs on the southwest portion of the project site. Subsequent construction would include a new single-story gym and locker room building on the eastern portion of the campus, followed by construction of an academic support building space and new single-story buildings containing 18 classrooms. The project’s final phase would entail reconstruction and rehabilitation of approximately 37,000 square feet of existing classrooms and workspaces. Several weak, damaged, and dying trees have been identified on the site and would be removed as part of the project. New interstitial landscaping, new turf, and new hardtop surface areas will be developed. The project is subject to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).

Please notify us if your organization has any information or concerns about historical resources on the project site. This is not a request for research; it is solely a request for public input related to any concerns that the Foster City Historical Society may have.
