Library Dedication Ceremony

Foster City Progress: April 16, 1997.

The dedication ceremony for the new Foster City County Library will take place on Saturday, April 19, at 11 a.m. in the parking lot of the facility at the intersection of Shell and Hillsdale boulevards. The celebration is open to the public.

The short Saturday opening program will include performances by the Foster City Philharmonic/Jazz Band, the Foster City Chorale, soloist Marie Davis, and a presentation of a $250,000 check from the Friends of the Foster City Library to the county librarian. The library will be open for tours immediately following the ceremony until 4 p.m.

Festivities preceding the grand opening begin with a gala preview on Thursday, April 17, at 6 p.m. for patrons and benefactors who contributed $1,000 or more to the library. This event is by invitation only.

On Friday, April 18, at 6 p.m. there will be a donor open house for everyone who has donated to the Friends of the Library fund. This event is also by invitation only.

Eileen Larsen was a dedicated public servant and former mayor of Foster City. She served on the Foster City Council from 1995 to 2003, holding the position of mayor in 1997. Larsen was instrumental in the development of the Foster City Library, contributing to its establishment and serving as president of the Friends of the Library. Her commitment to the community extended beyond her council tenure, as she remained active in local organizations and initiatives. Larsen’s legacy is marked by her passion for public service and her significant contributions to Foster City’s growth and development.
