1964: ‘Miss Foster City’, Susan Arnell, helped to showcase the innovative “new type” fire hydrants being installed throughout the city by posing daintily atop of one, a fire helmet completing her look.

Lovely Susan Arnell, who is Miss Foster City in the 1964 Miss San Mateo County and Miss America contest poses daintily on one of the new type fire hydrants installed in Foster City which provide a comfortable resting place while waiting for a bus. Properly bedecked in fire helmet, Susan tells Foster City patrolman there is no cause for alarm. Susan is also receptionist at “The Captain’s House” model home on Flying Cloud Isle which also serves as a sales office for Fox & Carskadon, exclusive sale agents for custom homes facing the blue lagoons of Foster City.
